Are you a 16–25 year old with an interest in football who is engaged with mental health or emotional wellbeing services? Do you live or work in the Crawley area, attend a local school or have a family connection to the town?

If so, there’s a fantastic project taking place in January and February which includes free football coaching from experienced coaches from Freedom Leisure and Sussex Central YMCA alongside emotional support from two mental health practitioners.

We’re looking for young people (both male and female) aged between 16 years and 25 years who have mental health/emotional wellbeing needs and have had contact with our services to come together to form a 5 aside squad to train and then play in a tournament on Friday 21 February. The project is very much focused on football with a bit of esteem and confidence building added in. It doesn’t matter whether you are good at football or not but more so that you enjoy the game.

We have the following dates booked out for free training sessions at the K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley between 5-6pm:

  • 24 January
  • 31 January
  • 7 February
  • 14 February .

If this pilot project is a success we hope to organise a more extensive programme later in the year building on the work of Nick Barnes’ Game of Two Halves’ Football Programme
